I have just began to lead a new lifestyle which excludes the following:
Wheat
Dairy (minimal)
Sugar
Grains
Nothiiiiiingggg.
For those who have no idea how this can be possible. Let me enlighten you, like you’ve never been enlightened before…
I don’t eat wheat but I still have bread, I don’t eat oats but I still have porridge, I don’t eat sweets but I still have muffins, slice, cake. I don’t eat pasta but I still have spaghetti. The list is endless. So what are the alternatives to all these things?
Bread:
Homemade out of flaxmeal or coconut flour.
Milk:
Almond milk.
Porridge:
Homemade out of chia seeds.
Pasta:
Zucchini (yes, zucchini sliced like pasta)
Rice:
Cauliflower rice (100% cauliflower)
Sugar:
Natural sweeteners; Stevia, Xyitrol.
Grain fed cattle:
Organic meat.
Farmed fish:
Wild fish
Eggs:
Always free ranged (this has been the case for me for years) I can’t eat caged eggs, not only are they treated like shit but they are fed so much rubbish that is then transferred into you (as with grain fed animals). Large amounts of Omega-6 for example.
Now… it takes some time to go from eating pasta for dinner to eating zucchini based spaghetti and going from a milky way for a snack to homemade organic chocolate nut balls (they are amazing by the way), cows milk to almond milk, oats to chia seeds. You get the gist. It is more expensive and takes a lot more thought. However, the benefits are endless and the change in my physical well being has been incredible.
I have started making my own snacks as I can’t eat much when I am out. These snacks include…
Banana and Walnut muffins.
Organic Chocolate Nut Balls.
Date and Walnut loaf.
Coconut flour and flaxseed bread.
Almond milk.
Organic ginger and cinnamon cookies.
Brownies (Yesssss really)
The list is endless. I can make anything. The only difference is, they are all wheat, dairy, preservative, chemical and sugar free. It seems unrealistic and unbelievable but these things I create are real and they are amazing.
So this blog began years ago, when I was younger and more interested in listening to and researching music and books than I was recipes… but now I spend a lot of my internet time looking for new ways to make exciting and interesting meals. It hasn’t been easy, but I have finally maintained this way of eating for over two months. There are always those slip ups, all of which are for reasons like being somewhere where I didn’t bring homemade snacks with me. When I have been travelling and not staying at my own house. Going to parties, friends places etc. Sometimes it is not possible to eat this way but it gets easier and I find ways around it.
I quickly want to address the ‘accidental’ part of my subject line. I started this way of eating to help improve my well being, but as I started looking for recipes and reading about the best seeds and minerals etc I realised that the way I am eating is very similar to the Paleo diet and hence… I am on an accidental Palaeolithic diet. By which I intend to continue for the rest of my life. It really is not that hard… you really just need to not be lazy and start nurturing your body instead of unknowingly poisoning it.
So basically: Coconut flour and chia seeds are amazing high in fibre alternatives. Chia seeds are superfoods as are goji berries (which I use instead of sultanas – extremely expensive but worth every penny). Nuts and seeds are snacks. I go decaf, soy lattes when I am out. I am not into coffee for the cherpy side of it but I do like a bit of the bitter taste and no one uses almond milk in cafes (hence the soy, otherwise I try to stay away from soy) and soy in hot chocolate is not okay… hot chocolate is also full of refined sugar. If anyone sticks their nose up at me drinking decaf… get over yourself I can drink decaf if I so wish. I also drink all herbals teas, chia and green mostly but I love peppermint and white too. These are mostly at home, work and uni because I feel they are a bit boring if you are going out to catch up with someone.
So this is the beginning of the beginning… stay tuned.
